Non-Exempt DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
An Environmental Services Worker (EVS)/Housekeeper is responsible for all housekeeping duties.
EVS is assigned to keep and maintain an area clean, attractive, safe, and sanitary within the hospital environment for patients, staff, and visitors through a systematic application of cleaning procedures in accordance with regulatory compliance requirements.
KEY
Responsibilities:
Daily cleaning and supplying of patient rooms, treatment rooms, restrooms, utility rooms, nursing stations, lounges, offices, waiting areas, and other areas as assigned in accordance with standard policies and procedures.
Properly demonstrates the techniques for cleaning a room; has a good working knowledge of the procedures for room cleaning, and during the cleaning identifies any concerns that require hospital facilities staff to fix.
Performs a range of cleaning tasks like mopping, sweeping, and floor buffing.
Cleans general areas around the building as assigned.
Mops and sweep floors to ensure all spaces are safe to walk.
Dusts window sills and wipe down windows ensuring both high and low dust spaces are addressed.
Disinfects walls and other high-traffic areas as needed.
Distributes linens and tracks the linens used in each department.
Refills necessary cleaning supplies to include toilet paper and other paper products as needed.
Trash removal, washing/cleaning of exterior surfaces, lots, buildings, etc.
in order to meet local, state and federal requirements for OSHA and other regulatory agencies.
Follows Management of Assaultive Behaviors procedures accurately when needed to ensure both patient and staff safety.
Other housekeeping services duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Licensing:
High school graduate or equivalent, required.
Knowledge and
Experience:
Proven work experience as an Environmental Services Worker or similar housekeeping role preferred.
Housekeeping related-Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and how to apply chemicals safely.
Building services related-Working knowledge of various cleaning tools like vacuum cleaners and floor buffers.
Relevant training and/or certifications as an Environmental Services Worker.
Current CPR and First Aid certification or within one month of hire date.
Management of Assaultive Behavior course prior to independent work in the hospital inpatient units.

Communicates with all customers (family, referral sources, caseworkers, etc) in a professional manner; is service oriented; and is courteous, friendly, and empathetic.
Exhibits calm and controlled attitude; does not overreact to allow his/her own actions to further deteriorate the situation.
Answers calls/walkie talkie correspondence in a professional manner; directs calls appropriately, takes messages.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, this position is frequently required to do the following:
Use standard cleaning supplies, cleaning equipment, and disposal containers to include repetitive actions.
Communicate effectively in person or via telephone in a manner which can be understood by those with whom the person is speaking, including a diverse population.
Give and follow verbal and written instructions with attention to detail and accuracy.
Vision:
see details of objects at close range.
Coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
Reach forward, up, down, and to the side.
Sit or stand for minimum periods of one hour at a time and come and go from the work area repeatedly throughout the day.
Lift up to thirty (30) pounds.
