As the Urban Forest Manager (Internally known as the Area Manager), you will be a part of the Horticulture & Resort Enhancement (HRE) leadership team at the Disneyland Resort.
This position is a leader of leaders and reports to a Senior Manager within Facilities and Operations Services (FOS).
This role has a directed focus on the Urban Forest at the Disneyland Resort and will be responsible for all scheduling and tree trimming as well as the continued development and implantation of the Urban Forest Landscape Management Plan which plots the future of the resort.
You will Provide command and control leadership to Horticulture Managers (HM), union hourly, and supporting Cast assigned primarily to 3rd shift Drive consistency between the various teams within the given department Lead a Horticulture Manager that will oversee Tree Assessment as well as manage a team of hourly horticulture Cast Members Manage and track performance to organizational targets and goals to include Cast Member (CM) safety targets, financial goals, personnel/staffing targets, project due dates, preventative maintenance strategy/completion, and reactive repair work Communicate in real-time with leaders in your reporting structure, as well as leaders of other organizations that are considered clients Foster an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere of teamwork Project a positive image and energy, while ensuring a culture of fairness and accountability Develop and implement safety strategies that continue to improve the safety of guests and cast, promoting a safety culture by proactively addressing concerns and thoroughly investigating every injury or near miss Effectively communicate and model organizational vision/goals to your team Approach high-priority problems with a sense of urgency and create a culture within your team that applies that same urgency to problem-solving and implementation Hold teams accountable for performance that meets or exceeds expectations and aligns with organizational vision Conduct regular team meetings and engage with cast in the field daily Know your operation and teach it to your cast members.
Mentor, train and coach cast members on how to perform their job safely and effectively Translate reports and data in which Cast Members are able to take action and improve performance Strive for continuous improvement, driving strategic measures to improve guest service, cast support and operational/equipment efficiency Understand CMC/Hotel laborers contracts and administer the guidelines fairly and consistently Technical Aptitude Demonstrate technical aptitude in Urban Forest Management.
The Urban Forester will manage the work involved regarding the observation, cultivation, planting, preservation, and maintenance practices in an overall process of protecting the tree assets in the Disneyland Resort (DLR) urban forest.
One major focus will be the development and continued refining of the base document, The Urban Forest Landscape Master Plan, (UFLMP).
With elements such as climate-related issues along with new and existing pest pressures, the UFLMP will be a living document that is a comprehensive ongoing multi-year urban forestry plan that identifies required tree maintenance or replacements based on risk, safety, aesthetics, guest comfort and visual intrusion The Urban Forester will plan and have control of the Disneyland Urban Forest which is comprised of over 17,000 individual trees that span over 350 species and will achieve the needs of the attractions and areas that require scale and layering per the Show Quality Standards (SQS).
This position will lead the Arborist and their team to identify these needs and to achieve a healthy and sustained arboreal layer throughout the resort Working knowledge and background in Integrated pest management (IPM), as well as horticultural and landscape-management techniques Effectively manage projects including, scope development, budgeting, resource management, scheduling, and communication Demonstrate technical proficiency with our safety programs and policies Inspect quality of completed preventive maintenance and reconcile to job plans Demonstrate and apply strong computer skills and embrace technology Continuously seek innovative solutions to technical challenges.
Be curious, don't confuse speed bumps for road blocks, and dig beyond the easy answer when necessary You will have Certification as a Certified Arborist by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) and/or Registered Consulting Arborist through the American Society of Consulting Arborists This position will be working third shift and will require the ability to be flexible with work schedule, including weekends and holidays 5 or more years of leadership and technical experience in the Arboriculture industry Basic budgeting and accounting skills Comfortable with written and verbal communication to all audience levels and able to prepare informal operating guidelines Horticulture/Arboriculture experience in tree care, proper tree selection and planting procedure, proper tree protection in construction areas, hazard tree recognition and assessment and tree identification and disease diagnosis Thorough knowledge of pruning principles and techniques Experience working with contractors, project managers, and construction personnel in making tree assessment recommendations and mitigating problems with trees during construction Demonstrated strong business and technical acumen Demonstrated experience leading a team; strong leadership skills This position includes work from ladders, elevated platforms, and confined spaces Preferred
Qualifications:
To have managed a substantial Urban Forest that consists of a wide variety of tree species that are also closely related to a formal management plan.
Tree Risk Assessment Qualified (TRAQ) based on the ISA standards.

The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
