Associate Medical Collection Representative

Under the direction of the Business office Supervisor the Collection Support Specialist will support the Patient Account Counselor's in working the accounts receivable to maximize reimbursement.
Essential Functions:
Tracks the basic denials, e.g. eligibility, to identify issues and escalates to the Supervisor for systematic
resolution with the appropriate department.
Bills and rebills secondary payer claims with appropriate documentation. Responsible for mailing paper
Works the lower dollar invoices in assigned area to secure reimbursement for services provided. Ensures
account information is accurate by updating registration and insurance data.
Answers phone, returns all calls and resolves any issues promptly.
Supports the collection process in assigned area by faxing requests to the payers, scanning documents,
pulling batches for claim research, sorting incoming mail, processing patient bad addresses, tracking site
requests, or verifying if Share of Cost has been met (Medi-Cal patients) to prepare the claim for billing.
Meets quality assurance and productivity standards. Works in Bar or PCS work file as assigned.
Handles multiple patient, site, and payer incoming calls and responds to each call in an efficient, effective,
and professional manner. In addition, covers for customer service phones and front desk walk-in patients as needed.
Balances and closes batches in a timely manner.
Supports the billing process in assigned area by processing adjustments for Senior Wellness claims or transferring secondary claims to the secondary FSC for monthly adjustment.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
High School Diploma (or equivalent) required
Requires 1 year medical billing and or collection experience in a healthcare setting with data entry skills.
Computer Skills:
Basic computer skills
Minimum-typing skill of 45 wpm
Experience with office machines including fax and photocopier.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
Excellent telephone etiquette
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Must have a professional and mature demeanor
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks/projects.
Ability to work in a fast-paced department and handle multiple tasks, work with interruptions
Preferred Position Qualifications:
Coding Knowledge (CPT/ICD9/HCPS) highly desirable.
Previous experience in electronic billing format.
Computer Skills:
Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Windows.
IDX/GE experience is highly desirable
Medical Terminology
Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) a plus

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
