Engineering Intern II - Traffic Management Center

The Department of Public Works is dedicated to delivering engineering services that provide the Anaheim community with pride in their City and its work force. The Traffic Management Center (TMC) has an opportunity for a Part Time Administrative Intern II to further their knowledge and skills by assisting the TMC in working with the Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS) devices during regular periods and events to facilitate traffic movement.
Essential Functions:
Perform a variety of entry-level administrative staff duties related to areas such as administrative regulations, policies, processes, procedures, systems, methods, reports, surveys, and forms, while learning the fundamental mission, structure, and operations associated with the assigned department.
Work in the TMC to operate ITS field devices.
Analyze and adjust signal timing to manage traffic congestion.
Assist with traffic engineering studies such as field surveys, counts, and delay studies.
Assist in collecting data and summarizing reports using Microsoft Office products.
Assist technicians to troubleshoot field devices as needed.
Conduct field work.
Assist engineers to investigate citizen complaints.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications:
Current enrollment in an accredited college or university program; course work in the area of civil engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or transportation engineering.
Knowledge of basic theory and principles of organization and management capabilities of standard computer systems, software, and hardware computer software such as word-processing, spreadsheet, database management, Synchro, Photoshop, C/C++, Autocad or techniques of data collection; fact-finding methods and procedures; proper business English, punctuation, spelling, and grammatical usage; customer service techniques for public contact in person, on the phone, and in written; communications; recordkeeping procedures.
The ability to gather pertinent facts and data, make thorough analyses, and arrive at sound conclusions; apply formulas in computing statistical measures; understand, interpret, and apply pertinent laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; effectively utilize standard office software and computer equipment in the performance of duties; provide technical assistance to others; work effectively and cooperatively with employees, and the public; make accurate observations and obtain objective information; prepare and present reports in written, oral, graphic, and tabular form; make routine oral presentations in a group setting; learn and effectively utilized specialized computer software and systems related to assigned function; learn the policies, processes, and procedures related to assigned department; work independently and meet deadlines; multi-task and be detail oriented, well organized and a self-starter.
Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license may be required for some positions.

Note: This is a part time position averaging 20 hours per week, but no minimum number of weekly hours is guaranteed. Scheduling is dependent upon traffic events from Sunday through Saturday, including evening and weekend hours. The scheduling of working hours can be arranged around class schedules. Due to the position being technical, applicants who can commit to a two year internship are preferred.
The selection process will consist of a minimum of an oral interview.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
