State and Local Tax Director

We are currently seeking a State and Local Tax (SALT) Director to assist with leading our multi-state income/franchise tax practice while serving as a technical resource to other SALT functional practice areas for the region. SALT Directors are responsible for business development, client service and managing and mentoring the client service team members in contributing and attaining team and firm goals.
Moss Adams is committed to providing a minimum of 40 hours of continuing education per year. This is delivered through a variety of mediums including the classroom, computer-based courses, and web-based sessions. We also provide local office training on technical topics to keep you current and informed on important Firm issues and industry standards. In addition, we provide soft skills training on marketing, sales, and time management giving you the skills you need to be successful in public accounting.
Responsibilities:
Develops, grows and serves as a technical resource for state income/ franchise tax services for the area
Serves as concurring reviewer on client engagements involving personal property tax, sales tax, unclaimed property and state and local incentive matters
Leverages technical knowledge and experience to provide effective project management and practice development; delivering timely and responsive services and products that meet and/or exceed client expectations
Performs state and local tax compliance reviews, assists clients with state and local tax controversies including voluntary disclosure, and researches and draft technical memoranda regarding state and local tax issues
Mentors and trains Staff, Seniors and Managers and Senior Managers
Provides income/franchise tax expertise for the Firm
Manages and performs consulting engagements as needed
Assists with proposals and business development, including the development of marketing materials and web-based marketing initiatives
Teams with personnel from other offices and industry groups to manage and develop SALT consulting practices
Writes and/or co-authors state and local tax articles for publication
Develops and participates in public speaking opportunities at state tax conferences and events
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required; Master?s in Taxation or a JD with LLM in Tax preferred
Minimum of 10 years of related tax experience
Public accounting experience preferred
Previous experience performing tax research and providing technical advice on state and local tax issues required
Experience training and supervising Staff, Seniors and Managers
Experience in state and local government revenue department preferred
Experience with property, employment, sales/use, gross receipts and other miscellaneous state and local taxes preferred
CPA or state bar membership in good standing preferred
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must be a highly motivated self-starter and have experience in managing multiple client engagements
Excellent customer service skills (internal and external)
Creative problem solving and research skills
Able to work effectively both as part of a team and independently
Able to handle multiple priorities, tasks and simultaneous projects
Ability to travel to client locations which may include overnight stays
Ability to work overtime as needed
Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
