Under general supervision, you will be responsible for the mechanical layout and packaging of power conversion equipment and other Navy based electronic systems. You will generate equipment layouts that satisfy system requirements and account for tradeoffs among thermal, mass properties, structural and manufacturing considerations.




Your day to day activities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.





  • Interprets customer specifications to define requirements for mechanical designs.

  • Applies the Inventor 3D CAD system to create mechanical layouts and drawings.

  • Develops detailed fabrication and assembly drawings and performs tolerances analysis.

  • Designs interconnecting brackets and support structure between components and subsystems.

  • Supports other mechanical engineers and drafters in conceptual design and preparation of mechanical drawings.

  • Generates project cost estimates and selects components for various designs.

  • Performs thermal and structural analyses under the guidance of lead mechanical engineers.

  • Generates engineering design change orders and performs checking work.

  • Responsible for project budget/schedule adherence.

  • Uses established and well defined engineering procedures.

  • Able to work simultaneously on a variety of projects.

  • Takes directions from project engineer or department manager.


Qualifications

Your education/experience includes:





  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from four-year college or university

  • Must have at least 5 years of experience in mechanical design and engineering

  • Practical experience with 3-D CAD and analysis software tools


  • Knowledge of military and commercial standards pertaining to design, testing, hardware, material, and processes a must



  • Knowledge of Mil-Specifications and qualification testing

  • Good communication skills

  • Able to obtain DOD security clearance
