Job Summary
Jabil-Anaheim develops sophisticated automation equipment for many industries including semiconductor wafer handling, life sciences, circuit board, and solar. We are seeking a highly motivated Control/Automation Electrical Engineer with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for specifying electrical components and controls for custom automation equipment. A high level of interaction with mechanical and software engineering departments is required for proper integration of all systems. The successful candidate will also be required to troubleshoot equipment in a fast paced environment to meet tight deadlines. The design engineer II reviews and analyzes project requirements, specification, plan, design and installation. Position is responsible for design of automation equipment to ensure stipulated specification and requirements are met, and delivered within budget and on time.
Using established procedures, a Design Engineer II is responsible for new engineering design, able to extract requirements and determine steps to implement reference design implementation or design modifications of existing product. A design Engineer II will have a good understanding of design process, able to develop & execute validation test plans and proficient in at least one CAD tool (AutoCAD) associated with the related engineering discipline.
Design Engineer (Electrical)
Should be able to perform and analyze circuit design unassisted from start to finish.
Should be able to develop subsystem architecture at the direction of an Engineer III or above.
Should be familiar with our commonly used manufacturing processes as it relates to electrical design and drive PCB layout accordingly.
Should have expertise in designing AC and DC electrical controls for robotic and pick and place automation equipment.
Should be able to specify electrical components and sub systems including:
motors, power supplies, I/O systems, sensors etc.
Should have extensive experience with robotic systems and deployment of robotics in sophisticated applications.
Should be proficient in designing control systems for complex automation equipment.
Should have extensive experience with vision systems and integrating vision application in robotic systems.
Should have high level of understanding of common electrical practices and standards including CE requirements; designing and testing to meet CE requirements.
Should be proficient in power distribution designs for control panels.
Should be expert in AutoCAD and creation of schematics.
Should be able to design and deploy motion control systems in complex applications.
Should have ability to build and test prototypes.
Should have strong troubleshooting and analytical thinking skills.
Should have excellent communication skills. New designs require interaction with Mechanical and Software Engineering, Project Management, Assembly Personnel, Vendors and Customers
Should have experience in software packages for PLC, VB.NET and robotics including Adept, Fanuc and Epson.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Meet the requirements of Design Engineer II
Work with manager and/or PM to provide information that will aid in the initial quoting process.
Generate design drawings, electrical schematics, and installation and/or user manuals; a complete understanding of AutoCAD design tool is essential.
Be responsible for directing the Design Engineer I and Technicians on their assigned projects.
Provide technical support for all manufacturing builds including engineering prototypes, NPI & production releases.
Stay abreast of the latest technology and techniques to provide designs that are competitive and cost effective.
Ensure all engineering times are logged into tracking system correspondent to the projects.
Comply and follow all procedures within the company security policy.
Ensure design for manufacturability.
Assist and drive trouble shooting efforts for automated equipment in production lines.
Have extensive experience with pneumatic design including:
FRLs, valves, cylinders, flow controls, etc.
Have a good understanding of Communication Protocols:
Serial, Ethernet, USB, etc.
May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electronics/Electrical engineering from an accredited four-year college or university
Minimum of 4-7 years of related experience and/or training
Minimum of 3 years experience as a Design Engineer
Specific requirements as defined by market sector
Or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.
