Senior Mechanical Engineer I

In the Senior Mechanical Engineer I role, you will be responsible for the mechanical layout and packaging of power conversion equipment and other Navy based electronic systems. Given the system complexity, the associated responsibilities and assignments require the exercise of considerable initiative, planning, and independent judgment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical acuity which encompasses interpretation of specifications/requirements and resolution of complex design and analysis problems. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate business acumen through the evaluation and integration of cost effective designs, and through project management to meet milestone, cost, and schedule objectives.
Your day to day activities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Reviews and interprets specifications and requirements of power conversion equipment to determine structural, thermal and safety critical characteristics/considerations for the mechanical designs.
Prepares material and labor cost estimates for proposed designs and proposals.
Works directly with all engineering supporting disciplines from concept through final product design and production
Responsible for project budget/schedule adherence.
Will be responsible for all aspects of mechanical design. These efforts include electronic packaging, mechanical design, thermal analyses, structural analyses and tolerance analyses for new and updated products.
Coordinates and reviews the work of the program design team, provides direction for design details, and supports the preparation of mechanical drawings.
Supports the manufacturing build and qualification testing requirements, as needed.
Reviews and approves project documentation, change requests, etc. and ensures appropriate documentation on projects.
Interfaces with customers, vendors, and production to develop product requirements and solutions.
Responsible for maintaining Computer Aided Engineering/Design skills in support of the mechanical engineering and design functions.
Your education/experience includes:
Bachelor's degree (BSME) from four-year college or university; and minimum 8 years related experience and/or training.
Experience using 3-D CAD software tools in design function. Autodesk Inventor, or equivalent modeling software (solid modeler) experience a must.
Knowledge of military and/or commercial specifications and standards pertaining to design, testing, hardware, material, and processes a must.
Strong knowledge of material and hardware selection including welding, fabrication practices, and machining tolerances to complete a cost-effective design.
Knowledge of Navy/Military Specifications for environmental qualification testing.
Skilled in finite element analysis.
Good communication skills.
Able to obtain DOD security clearance.
The ideal candidate will have:
Electronics packaging mechanical design experience
Preferred knowledge working with high power electronics
Preferred experience in the defense industry
Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) experience with Agile PLM, Windchill PLM, or other PLM system
